Chef in the Garden |
Our regular Chef in the Garden events bring our garden curriculum to life for Echo Canyon Students.
Chef in the Garden is a program provided through a partnership with Blue Watermelon Project with the intent of integrating taste education and hands-on techniques into the curriculum to engage all senses and encourage learning through doing. Throughout the year, local chefs will visit each classroom to provide a lesson on a specific vegetable, herb, or grain. The chef then demonstrates a recipe for the students to try. Blue Watermelon Project will also provide Chef in the Garden kits for students to take home in Grades PreK-5. These kits will include everything a student needs to recreate a recipe at home. Video tutorials can also be found on Blue Watermelon's website. Chefs may also periodically "pop up" in our gardens creating new foods grown and harvested in our gardens for students to sample. The Chef in the Garden program culminates with an evening family culinary festival in which participants sample foods from a variety of prestigious local chefs and restaurants. |
